Neighborhood HealthSource is a private, non-profit organization run by an executive director. The executive director who is chosen by our board of directors. Our board is made up of a least 51% patients, which helps us ensure that our organization is committed to meeting the needs of our patients.

Robin Bresette , MD: Sheridan Clinic

Medical Director

Dr. Robin Bresette attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison before completing her residency at the University of Minnesota in Family Medicine. She has 14 years of experience as a family medicine physician, 11 of which she has worked at Neighborhood HealthSource. Her areas of interest include prenatal care, pediatrics, women's health, and chronic disease. Outside of work, her favorite activities include yoga, gardening, biking, and snowboarding.Read Bio

Director of Finance

Curt Engels started at Neighborhood HealthSource in July of 2023 and has over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining NHS he has held various leadership positions within the industry including Chief Financial Officer at Crest View Senior Communities, Director of Finance at Southview Acres Health Care Center, Controller at Sholom Community Alliance and Director of Finance at Evercare (a division of United Health Group).…Read Bio

Curt Engels started at Neighborhood HealthSource in July of 2023 and has over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining NHS he has held various leadership positions within the industry including Chief Financial Officer at Crest View Senior Communities, Director of Finance at Southview Acres Health Care Center, Controller at Sholom Community Alliance and Director of Finance at Evercare (a division of United Health Group). Curt has a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University where he double majored in Accounting and Finance.

Cheryl Gehrke has worked in the health care arena since 1999 when she received her BS in Nursing from Bethel University. Her nursing background is varied and includes experience in Labor and Delivery, OB/GYN, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Management, General Surgery, and Urgent Care. Prior to her work at NHS, Mrs. Gehrke was a Care Delivery Supervisor for 31 employees over 3 departments at a Minneapolis HMO. She was hired by NHS in May, 2008 as Nurse Manager and Clinic Nurse at our Sheridan Clinic and received a promotion to the Clinical Director position in September, 2008. In this capacity, Ms. Gehrke provides oversight of the RN and clinical support staff functions of the agency and directly supervises the Clinical Operations Manager laboratory and nursing staff. She also serves as NHS’s HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer.

Executive Director

Steve Knutson brings extensive knowledge of the financing and delivery of health care services in our marketplace. He has served as Executive Director of Neighborhood HealthSource (NHS) since 2009. In this role, he has led efforts on NHS rebranding, Electronic Medical Records implementation, practice growth through acquisition and MH/SUD service expansion and was instrumental in obtaining federal grant funding to cover several site renovation projects and the construction of a new clinic, as well as securing several large private foundation grants to NHS.…Read Bio

Mr. Knutson has over 30 years’ experience in health care operations and strategic development working with Minnesota health care non-profits, including provider relations positions with Medica & Allina, and Clinic Operations and Payer Relations positions with HealthEast—both large health systems based in the Twin Cities. Prior to his tenure at NHS, he was a partner in ConsentiaHealth, Inc., assisting health systems and provider practices in the development and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives. Mr. Knutson served on NHS’ board for several years and was board Treasurer before being named Executive Director in early 2009.

Director of Community Health & Grants Management

Tessa Wetjen is dedicated to connecting NHS and our community in ways that improve everyone’s health. Tessa has a Master’s in Public Affairs from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota and undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Government from New Mexico State University. Tessa has directed a nonprofit serving youth and families; provided refugee resettlement services; led a Community Health Worker team working in the East African community; and implemented state-wide strategies to connect pregnant and parenting women with mental health services.Read Bio

Neighborhood HealthSource provides a full range of primary medical and behavioral healthcare services at four clinics in Minneapolis and the north metro. We work hard to make sure everyone in our communities can access the care they need.

We are committed to treating all patients, with and without health insurance, and believe that cost should never be a barrier to care.

Providing care that our patients can afford is vital to our mission. We have an income-based sliding fee program for patients with and without insurance.
